Our Birmingham, Alabama, hair restoration practice is the only one in the U.S. certified to perform a highly specialized technique called hair follicle simulation tattooing (HFST) for people from Huntsville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, and surrounding areas. This micropigmentation treatment can help men with extensive hair loss who shave their heads, women with thin or barely visible eyebrows, and people with scars in hair-bearing areas.
Micropigmentation for hair loss—also called scalp micropigmentation—is a nonsurgical treatment that uses a tiny, fine needle to embed pigment into the skin to create the illusion of hair follicles or eyebrows. Cosmetic tattooing, as it’s also known, can hide unsightly scars when performed by highly trained and experienced practitioners such as those at T3 Hair Preservation.
Scalp hair follicle simulation tattoo (SHFST) creates the appearance of a full head of closely shaved hair. Besides being an excellent solution for men who are essentially bald, both men and women who cannot undergo hair replacement procedures can also simulate the appearance of thicker hair.
At T3, we utilize exclusive, high-quality pigments to closely match the patient’s hair color. This allows us to create natural, long-lasting results. Other benefits of micropigmentation include:
We numb the scalp before the procedure to minimize discomfort.
Dr. Beckenstein is one of the leading hair preservation and restoration specialists in the South and treats each patient personally. The board-certified plastic surgeon combines exceptional technical skill with a personable demeanor to create a relaxed environment for the men and women concerned about hair loss.
At T3, we understand the importance of looking and feeling your best. Natural-looking eyebrows are an essential component of having an aesthetically pleasing face. Any distortion is very noticeable and detracts from one’s overall attractiveness. Through meticulous micropigmentation techniques, we restore and improve eyebrow aesthetics. We create individual hair shafts in the appropriate location and orientation, resulting in long-lasting, natural eyebrows.
Micropigmentation is extremely effective at camouflaging scars. We specialize in concealing the appearance of scars that result from “strip” method hair replacement surgery. The procedure is relatively painless and demonstrates remarkable results quickly. Micropigmentation is ideal for patients seeking a nonsurgical and immediate solution. Scar camouflage can be used along with NeoGraft® scar revision to conceal and greatly diminish the appearance of strip technique scars.
When a woman’s hair loss doesn’t respond to treatment, scalp micropigmentation can help disguise thinning areas. This simple and long-lasting nonsurgical treatment can be an excellent solution because alopecia rarely progresses to complete baldness in women.
Scalp micropigmentation results last approximately 2 to 4 years before the pigment begins to fade and a touch-up is needed. Consistent sun protection, such as wearing a hat and using sunscreen with at least SPF 30, can help your results last as long as possible.
While both are semi-permanent eyebrow enhancement and restoration procedures, eyebrow micropigmentation and microblading have some important differences. Here is a comparison.
Consideration | Micropigmentation | Microblading |
How it’s done | An automated fine-needle device injects pigment into the skin in closely placed stipples (dots). | A small tool with fine blades creates shallow, hair-like scrapes in the eyebrows, into which pigment is applied. |
Pain | Noticeable | Minimal |
Results | A bolder shaded or powdered look | Soft, subtle, natural look |
Best for | More dramatic look Oily and mature skin | Filling in thin eyebrows Dry skin |
Results last | At least 2 to 5 years | About 1 to 1.5 years |
